Black Tie Birthday Party Invitation Wording

Level 42, Banda 80s pop funk

Level 42 Level 42 is a band of British pop and funk. It was formed in 1979 as a band that fused jazz and funk. On the origin of the name, both King and Boon Gould decided the band should be called simply by a number, and thought '88 ', the number of bus used to go to the studio. However, Philip Gould Lindup and saw a poster of a band called 'Rocket 88', so they abandoned the idea (although '88 'was later used as the name of a song). Then, it was suggested the '42 'as the name of the band (number taken from a novel science fiction of Douglas Adams called The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy ). It is presumed that the deceased producer Andy Sojka proposed this name for having read this novel. As a result, are known to use the number '42 'wine or King or Boon Gould or Sojka. The word 'Level' is presumably could be either a lawyer or a lawyer Sojka John Gould (the third brother and band manager).

In principle, the band signed to a small label near the forest, Elite Records. Shortly after they released the single "Love Meeting Love" on Elite Records, which drew the attention of Polydor Records and signed with it. One of the contributors to their new venture, keyboardist Wally Badarou, later to become for years in the co-producer of Level 42 and Mark King called the "fifth member" of the band, although he had other commitments prevented from touring.

In 1981 he took " Love Games," a hit that took a clean sweep in the charts and soon after they released the album of the same name, which was a huge success throughout Europe.

The following year, became a second album The Pursuit of Accidents, and singles from the album: the first "Weave Your Spell" and then came "The Chinese Way", the latter in particular went very far in the charts, gaining in audience and success. Meanwhile, Polydor released The Early Tapes, recorded at a time when the band signed to the label Elite. A fourth album Standing in the Light placed in the top ten lists the hit "The Sun Goes Down (Living It Up) "in the UK in 1983. Recorded with members of Earth, Wind and Fire, this album opened a new era in the band, less experimental and jazzy than her previous releases. There was entirely instrumental pieces this album and any of the following albums to the Staring at the Sun in 1988.

The quartet continued with the album True Colours in 1984, which mixed funk styles, pop, rock and midtempo mellow ballads. gave way to the singles " The Chant Has Begun "and" Hot Water ". In the same year, Mark King was engaged in a solo project: Influences. In addition, the group was also acclaimed for their powerful live on stage (such as direct Physical Presence album recorded). This album

study was done in World Machine, released in 1985. The simple of it, "Something About You" and "Leaving Me Now" were hits in the top ten on the charts, followed by another, "Lessons in Love" in early 1986. By then, the band moved away from jazz-funk style and his tendency was the pop sound. Elements of Level 42's roots could still be seen in the funky "Coup d'Etat" and "Dream Crazy" on the British version of the album, and a long instrumental track called "Hell." This last track on the album did not see the light of day until early 2000 as a download MP3s on the old Napster.

The album Running in the Family, 1987, became its biggest seller, and laid the foundations of pop music style, with the bass of Mark King, Lindup and sounds of keyboardist Badarou serving as templates, to pop songs successful as "Lessons in Love," the ballad "It's Over" and the title of the album.

Both Philip and Boon left the group, unhappy about the growing trend toward pop music and exhausted from touring. Then, King and Gary Husband hired to replace Steve Topping. Husband Topping recommended, but it was not well understood with King because of personality differences. The guitarist Alan Murphy joined the group, formerly of the band Go West. He also had studio guitarist Kate Bush. The new album Level 42 Staring at the Sun was released in 1988. The following year, Alan was killed to an illness related to AIDS and the band disappeared for a while. Then he released the Level Best a Recopilation with great success. In December 1990, the band played a concert at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, which had already been booked two years earlier. These concerts characterized them Lyndon Connah on keyboards and vocals, and Allan Holdsworth on guitar. This year, Mike Lindup also pulled his debut solo album Changes.
