Uvero The Crab, Sagua La Grande

Cangrejitos BEACH VIOLINISTS UVERO

SIMPLE WAY TO DIFFERENTIATE

is common for all sagüeros found on our coasts Uvero and La Isabela for the funny crabs violinists identified as a die to our beaches.

all belong to the genus Uca, and we could identify 6 of these small crustaceans in the region sagüera.

During the work of our group Espeleológico "Sabaneque" Sagua La Grande between 1970 and 1985 we were able to differentiate six (6) of these semi-terrestrial crabs that live by the thousands in our mangroves, marshes and beaches. (Uca (Crustacea: Brachyura: Ocypodidae).

The common name of "Fiddlers Crab" It comes from the movement that made the lower Muelita (chelates) when they are feeding, giving the appearance of motion of a violin bow.

can differentiate females and males to the naked eye in males there is a considerable difference between the two wheels (chelae) being a several times larger than the other.

At first glance it is very difficult to differentiate these crabs Sagua but there is little taxonomic details that allow us to locate each in its position as a species within the animal kingdom.

example, the species Uca leptodactyla differs from the other five in its Muelita child has a very wide open while the other species are very close this opening.

The forehead also plays a role to differentiate as in the case of Uca major where the forehead is narrow, or thayeri Uca where the front is more than twice as wide as that of the stems.

anterolateral margins Uca speciosa differentiate the two species if they are almost straight and you have these other curves.
latter one
And the bourgeoisie and Uca Uca rapax differ (among other details) at the tip of fixed finger in the first case it has no crest and a tubercle, while the second case if you have crested but tubéculo.
